I have put together some tips on how to workout consistently to help you get the results that you want. If you’ve tried anything, you will know that in order to get any returns, you have to be consistent and that is not always easy.

Guys listen, I used to be a ‘serial quitter’. I’ve always been curious about things so I start things all the time but sticking with them was a challenge so I would give up before I saw any progress. I’m happy to report that I have found my rhythm with the gym and I am actually enjoying myself...guess what, I am seeing results.

Find a workout time that works for you

I really do believe that this works. I will give you an example. I’m a morning person, it comes naturally to me to do things first thing in the morning so naturally I schedule my gym sessions for the mornings. When we went back to level 3 in December, the gym times were adjusted. The gym opened at 7AM and I had to be at work at 8AM so I had to change my gym times to the evenings and this made me miserable. I was late for work every day, I’m not even joking, I was just off balance. It really took quite a while for me to adjust and even then, I just didn’t enjoy it. So then, if you’re not a morning person and you don’t even want to talk when you wake up, I doubt that you will enjoy working out at 5AM. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not impossible but why do you want to do that to yourself?

Find a workout program that works you

Okay..if you don’t like running, running is probably not going to work out. If you don’t like CrossFit, it probably won’t work for you either. You get where I’m going with this..after you have decided what your goal is (weight loss, toning, staying fit), it will be easier to search for workout programs that will help you reach your goal. Pinterest is my go-to for workout ideas, depending on what I want to do.

So for starters, I would say, find something that you will enjoy so that even if it’s tough, it doesn’t make you completely miserable. Honestly, gym is not meant to punish you and I really think you do better at anything that you don’t hate. There’s a large variety of programs so try out different ones until you find something that works.

You won’t always be motivated so work on your discipline

I get this question quite a bit, people wanting to know what keeps me motivated. The answer is that I’m not motivated, I haven’t been for a while. What I am though is disciplined. What that means is that I go and workout even when I don’t feel like it. My schedule is that I workout Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday are optional. This means that it doesn’t matter how I feel, Monday to Friday I am at the gym. Exception is when I’m sick, perhaps work commitments or whatever important thing is going on. Do you see that I didn’t mention ‘not feeling like it’..that’s because I don’t operate on how I feel. Try it and you will see how much you will accomplish with this type of attitude.

Have an accountability partner

You need someone who is going to ask you if you went to the gym or worked out. I will be sitting and minding my own business and someone will send a text asking how my workout was🙄. I’m like what workout, back off! (with love of course). Then I feel guilty and do a workout even if it’s a home workout just so that I have done something for the day.

I am very lucky in this area. My accountability partners come in the form of husband, best friend, gym partners and friends.

My phone and watch track my workouts so when I haven’t closed a workout ring, I get reminded. It’s really annoying but it gets my butt off the couch when I’m lazy. You can do this with a normal calendar. You decide on the days you will workout and then each day you follow through, you mark as ‘done’ it will motivate you when you have ticked all your scheduled workout days for a few weeks. This will allow you to see all the days you were lazy. You will then try and improve going into the next week, next month and so on.

Working out can really be enjoyable when you find that thing that works for you. What works for me, might not work for the next person so you will need to try out a few things in order to find the right one for you. You will probably need to switch it up after a while, like anything, doing the same thing over an extended period does get monotonous. Be experimental, creative and just have fun with it.

Please add someone your suggestions on the comments, I would love to hear from you.

❤️✨

Throughly enjoyed this read, in the era of fitness and everyone being active it’s very easy to get caught up in what exercise everyone is doing instead of finding what works for you. And finding your rhythm 👌🏾
